Description
Sulla coronaria (Cock’s head) – it is included in the list of EU fodder grasses. It is a perennial legume herb with pink flowers that are clustered (similar to wild vetch). The pods are small, segmented while green, and split into one-seeded segments when ripe. In Lithuania, fodder should be sown in spring, it can be mixed with annual bell grasses. Haying is best done before flowering, as the forage value decreases when mature.
Use: fodder plant. The plant is rich in honey, the flowers are fragrant, so it is visited by bees
Cultivation features: grows in well-drained, preferably sandy, alkaline soil in a sunny location. Suitable for growing in poor, shallow soil. Does not like shade and wet soil. It grows better in mild summers, adapted to the Mediterranean climate, (and according to USDA zones – suitable for sowing from 4)
