Persian clover – are the most productive of annual clovers. Grows up to 70 centimeters, tends to lie down. It sprouts quickly, 2-4 harvests of green mass are obtained per year. Does not tolerate low mowing or grazing, stubble should not be lower than 4 cm. The sowing time is combined according to the purpose – fodder is sown in spring, for soil improvement, as green fertilizer – after harvesting the main plant, as intermediates.
Use: suitable for fodder, green fertilizer. Due to the juicy stems, it dries less well when used for hay (technology may be required – crushing or pulping the mass to be hayed). Suitable for bee „pastures”. Accumulates atmospheric nitrogen.
Cultivation features: persian clover can be grown on many soils – both heavier and even poorer, with the exception of dry sandy or gravelly (overdrying) soils. The pH spectrum of acidity is quite wide, suitable from 5.5 to 8.5. These plants also like wetter soils, they do not rot even after short-term flooding. When preparing fields for sowing these clovers, it is important that it is weed-free – Persian clovers germinate slowly, are delicate and do not compete with weeds.
